Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much is a check up?

A check up appointment is $60 for the first visit. The dentist will check every tooth and give you a plan of what treatment, if any needs to be done and what is the most urgent.

2. I have toothache. Can I be seen straight away?

We try our best to see patients on the same day if they have a dental emergency. However, if you have small toothache try to get here before it becomes a more painful, more serious and more expensive appointment.

 3. Can I claim straight away?

Yes we have Hicaps so bring your dental fund card to your appointment and we can claim for you on the spot and you only have to pay the gap.

 4. How much will it cost?

It’s very hard to quote over the phone without the dentist seeing exactly what your dental needs are but once you’re here we can give you a quote before we start. The dentist can usually give you a couple of treatment options for you to think about. If you are in a health fund we can give you the item numbers so you can ask your fund what rebate you will get for your treatment.

 5. What is the gap?

There are many different health funds and many different levels of dental cover so we don’t know the exact refund you will get from your fund. However we are very happy to give you the item numbers so you can check the gap with your dental insurer. With HCF your regular check up and scale and clean appointments are 100% covered. We are a BUPA Members First Practice so if you are with BUPA you will get maximum rebates with us.

 6. Do you bulk bill?

Unlike medical expenses, dentistry in Australia is not covered by Medicare in most cases. The exception is the Children’s Dental Benefit Scheme Read more.

 7. What happens at the first appointment?

Usually at the first appointment you will see the Hygienist who will give you a full run down on how to keep your teeth healthy and strong at home. She will give you a professional clean, and then the dentist will see you for your check up. If there is work to be done we will send you home with a quote. It is important to have a scale and clean before your check up because often decay can be hiding under the hard build up that only a dental professional can remove.

 8. Do you have anything to help nervous patients?

Yes, we have nitrous oxide (happy) gas which is great for helping you feel more relaxed in the chair. We also have Injex which is a needle free local anaesthetic. We can also arrange for you to be put to sleep (under general Anaesthetic) for your treatment.

9. Do you treat children under the Medicare Children’s Dental Benefit Scheme?

Yes, your child (if eligible) will receive treatment up to the value of $1000 over a two year period. Treatment can include scale and clean, check up and diagnostic digital radiographs, a fluoride treatment and oral hygiene instruction, protective fissure sealants, fillings, extractions and it’s all bulk billed through Medicare.
